Aluminum is one of the most widely used metals globally due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, low cost, and recyclability. Hongsinn offers a variety of aluminum alloys to choose from.
The standard alloy on our platform is 6061, a versatile and easily machinable metal that is corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic, and heat-treatable. 7075 aluminum is a hard and high-strength alternative to 6061, typically used in components for high-stress applications, and is corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic, and heat-treatable.
When resistance to high-stress corrosion is required, 7050 aluminum can replace 7075 aluminum and is commonly used in bulkheads and fuselage frames. It is also heat-treatable and non-magnetic. While 2024 aluminum is not as strong as 7075, it is typically used in applications requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio, and is heat-treatable and non-magnetic.
5052 aluminum is the easiest aluminum to weld, exhibits exceptional resistance to salt spray and brine corrosion, is easy to form, heat-treatable, and non-magnetic. 6063 aluminum is superior to 6061 aluminum in corrosion resistance and formability. Although not suitable for high-strength applications, it is suitable for exterior railings and decorative edging, and also possesses heat-treatable and non-magnetic properties.
MIC6 is a cast aluminum alloy, often referred to as jig plates or casting tools, particularly suitable for applications requiring tight tolerances due to its stress-relieved nature. It is primarily used in precision machine tool tables and fixtures, and is non-magnetic and not heat-treatable.
Untreated aluminum typically appears as a dull silver or gray, depending on the surface roughness. Many aluminum consumer products, such as the MacBook Pro, undergo anodizing. This process not only introduces a wide range of color options but also adds a consistent shine to the entire component.
In addition, aluminum can be treated with various surface finishes, such as media blasting, sandblasting, and hand polishing. These methods enhance the appearance and performance of aluminum.
Alodine is a commonly used protective coating for aluminum components and is often considered an alternative to anodizing. Its coating can be clear or gold, providing protection while also adding aesthetic appeal. Such surface treatments ensure the durability and reliability of aluminum in various environments.
To effectively reduce costs, the following measures can be taken:
Reduce the number of part setups: Minimize the number of part setups to reduce machine downtime and setup costs.
Check dimensions and tolerances: Check the required dimensions and tight tolerances, and only use them when necessary to reduce manufacturing complexity and time.
Optimize design: For designs with small radii and deep pockets, consider their impact on machining and reduce complexity.
Choose an appropriate blank thickness: If surface finish is not an issue, design parts based on the closest blank thickness specified in the drawings to avoid unnecessary material waste.
