5-Axis CNC Machining
There are three main variations of multi-axis CNC machining centers: 5-axis indexed CNC milling, continuous 5-axis CNC milling, and mill-turn centers with live tooling. These systems essentially add additional degrees of freedom to a traditional milling or lathe. For example, a 5-axis CNC milling center not only allows the machine or tool head to rotate, but also cooperates in three linear axes of motion to achieve more complex machining.
The advanced capabilities of these machines often come with a higher cost. They require not only specialized equipment but also operators with specialized knowledge. For highly complex or topologically optimized metal parts, 3D printing is often a more appropriate solution.
Index 5-axis CNC milling systems are also known as 3+2 CNC milling machines because they use two additional degrees of freedom to rotate the workpiece between machining operations. The main advantage of these systems is that the need to manually reposition the workpiece is eliminated. In this way, parts with more complex geometries can be machined faster and with higher precision than with 3-axis CNC milling machines. However, they lack the ability of continuous 5-axis CNC machines to process true free-form surfaces.
A mill-turn CNC center is essentially a CNC lathe equipped with a CNC milling cutter. A variation of the mill-turn center is the Swiss-type lathe, which typically has higher precession rates. Mill-turn systems combine the high productivity of CNC turning with the geometric flexibility of CNC milling, making them ideal for manufacturing parts with "loose" rotational symmetry (such as camshafts and centrifugal impellers) at a much lower cost than other 5-axis CNC machining systems.
3-axis CNC milling machines are suitable for manufacturing relatively simple geometries, with excellent precision and low cost.
CNC lathes have the lowest cost per unit, but are only suitable for part geometries with rotational symmetry.
Index 5-axis CNC milling machines are characterized by fast machining and very high precision when manufacturing parts, even when not aligned with one of the spindles.
Continuous 5-axis CNC milling machines are able to manufacture parts with highly complex "organic" geometries and smooth contours, but their cost is higher
FAQ:
Q: Are you a trading company or manufacturer?
A: We are a factory.
Q: How can I obtain a quotation?
A: To receive a quotation, please send us drawings in formats such as IGS, DWG, STEP, etc., along with a detailed PDF. If you have any specific requirements, please include them in the request, and we will provide professional advice for your reference.
Q: What if I don't have a drawing?
A: In such cases, you can provide us with samples or drawings. Rest assured, we will ensure the safety and confidentiality of any provided drawings.
Q: What is your delivery time?
A: Normally, it takes 7-14 days for the parts to be ready. We have systems in place to ensure timely delivery.
Q: How do you ship the products? What are the packing details?
A: For small quantity orders, we have partnerships with courier services like TNT, FEDEX, UPS, etc. For larger quantities, air or sea shipment options are available. We have standard packing details, but if you have any specific requirements, we are willing to assist you.
Q: Do you provide samples? Is there an extra charge?
A: Yes, we can provide samples, but there may be an extra charge for them.
Q: What are your payment terms? How can I make the payment?
A: Our payment terms are 50% T/T (bank transfer) in advance, with the balance payment due before shipment. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.
