  1. To face mill a part, start by installing an end mill or face mill in the spindle of the machine. Make sure to follow all safety precautions. Begin the spindle and manually jog the tool close to the top of the rough stock. Reduce the job increment to 0.001 inches per pulse and slowly lower the tool until it just makes contact with the face of the part.
  2. Next, move the tool off to the side of the part and lower it by the desired amount for the face cut (typically between 0.005 to 0.02 inches). Increase the jog increment to 0.01 inches per pulse and move the tool in the XY direction as necessary to create a flat surface on the face of the part. Adjust the position of the tool to achieve the desired surface finish and dimensions.
  3. Always ensure proper tool alignment, cutting speeds, and feeds to achieve the desired results.
